CEB 26 When Elizabeth was six months pregnant, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a city in Galilee, NRS 26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, CEB 27 to a virgin who was engaged to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David's house. The virgin's name was Mary. NRS 27 to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. CEB 28 When the angel came to her, he said, "Rejoice, favored one! The Lord is with you!" NRS 28 And he came to her and said, "Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you." CEB 29 She was confused by these words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. NRS 29 But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. CEB 30 The angel said, "Don't be afraid, Mary. God is honoring you. NRS 30 The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. CEB 31 Look! You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. NRS 31 And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. CEB 32 He will be great and he will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of David his father. NRS 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. CEB 33 He will rule over Jacob's house forever, and there will be no end to his kingdom." NRS 33 He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end." CEB 34 Then Mary said to the angel, "How will this happen since I haven't had sexual relations with a man?" NRS 34 Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I am a virgin?" CEB 35 The angel replied, "The Holy Spirit will come over you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the one who is to be born will be holy. He will be called God's Son. NRS 35 The angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God. CEB 36 Look, even in her old age, your relative Elizabeth has conceived a son. This woman who was labeled ‘unable to conceive' is now six months pregnant. NRS 36 And now, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be barren. CEB 37 Nothing is impossible for God." NRS 37 For nothing will be impossible with God." CEB 38 Then Mary said, "I am the Lord's servant. Let it be with me just as you have said." Then the angel left her. NRS 38 Then Mary said, "Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her.
