Mark 10:1-12

CEBA 1 Jesus left that place and went beyond the Jordan and into the region of Judea. Crowds gathered around him again and, as usual, he taught them. NIV 1 Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them. CEBA 2 Some Pharisees came and, trying to test him, they asked, "Does the Law allow a man to divorce his wife?" NIV 2 Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” CEBA 3 Jesus answered, "What did Moses command you?" NIV 3 “What did Moses command you?” he replied. CEBA 4 They said, "Moses allowed a man to write a divorce certificate and to divorce his wife." NIV 4 They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.” CEBA 5 Jesus said to them, "He wrote this commandment for you because of your unyielding hearts. NIV 5 “It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. CEBA 6 At the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. NIV 6 “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ CEBA 7 Because of this, a man should leave his father and mother and be joined together with his wife, NIV 7 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, CEBA 8 and the two will be one flesh. So they are no longer two but one flesh. NIV 8 and the two will become one flesh.’So they are no longer two, but one flesh. CEBA 9 Therefore, humans must not pull apart what God has put together." NIV 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” CEBA 10 Inside the house, the disciples asked him again about this. NIV 10 When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. CEBA 11 He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her; NIV 11 He answered, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. CEBA 12 and if a wife divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery." NIV 12 And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.”
