KJV 14 Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him. NIV 14 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!” KJV 15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified. NIV 15 Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified. KJV 16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band. NIV 16 The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called together the whole company of soldiers. KJV 17 And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head, NIV 17 They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him. KJV 18 And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews! NIV 18 And they began to call out to him, “Hail, king of the Jews!” KJV 19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him. NIV 19 Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him. KJV 20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him. NIV 20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him. KJV 21 And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross. NIV 21 A certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross. KJV 22 And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull. NIV 22 They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). KJV 23 And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not. NIV 23 Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it. KJV 24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take. NIV 24 And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots to see what each would get.
