CEB 21 Jesus crossed the lake again, and on the other side a large crowd gathered around him on the shore. When he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet NIV 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. CEB 23 and pleaded with him, "My daughter is about to die. Please, come and place your hands on her so that she can be healed and live." NIV 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” CEB 24 So Jesus went with him. A swarm of people were following Jesus, crowding in on him. NIV 24 So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him. CEB 25 A woman was there who had been bleeding for twelve years. NIV 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. CEB 26 She had suffered a lot under the care of many doctors, and had spent everything she had without getting any better. In fact, she had gotten worse. NIV 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. CEB 27 Because she had heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his clothes. NIV 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, CEB 28 She was thinking, If I can just touch his clothes, I'll be healed. NIV 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” CEB 29 Her bleeding stopped immediately, and she sensed in her body that her illness had been healed. NIV 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. CEB 30 At that very moment, Jesus recognized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and said, "Who touched my clothes?" NIV 30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?” CEB 31 His disciples said to him, "Don't you see the crowd pressing against you? Yet you ask, ‘Who touched me?'" NIV 31 “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ” CEB 32 But Jesus looked around carefully to see who had done it. NIV 32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. CEB 33 The woman, full of fear and trembling, came forward. Knowing what had happened to her, she fell down in front of Jesus and told him the whole truth. NIV 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. CEB 34 He responded, "Daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace, healed from your disease." NIV 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.” CEB 35 While Jesus was still speaking with her, messengers came from the synagogue leader's house, saying to Jairus, "Your daughter has died. Why bother the teacher any longer?" NIV 35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?” CEB 36 But Jesus overheard their report and said to the synagogue leader, "Don't be afraid; just keep trusting." NIV 36 Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” CEB 37 He didn't allow anyone to follow him except Peter, James, and John, James' brother. NIV 37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. CEB 38 They came to the synagogue leader's house, and he saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. NIV 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. CEB 39 He went in and said to them, "What's all this commotion and crying about? The child isn't dead. She's only sleeping." NIV 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” CEB 40 They laughed at him, but he threw them all out. Then, taking the child's parents and his disciples with him, he went to the room where the child was. NIV 40 But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. CEB 41 Taking her hand, he said to her, "Talitha koum," which means, "Young woman, get up." NIV 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). CEB 42 Suddenly the young woman got up and began to walk around. She was 12 years old. They were shocked! NIV 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. CEB 43 He gave them strict orders that no one should know what had happened. Then he told them to give her something to eat. NIV 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.
