Mark 8:26-37

GNT 26 Jesus then sent him home with the order, "Don't go back into the village." NIV 26 Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into the village.” GNT 27 Then Jesus and his disciples went away to the villages near Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, "Tell me, who do people say I am?" NIV 27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?” GNT 28 "Some say that you are John the Baptist," they answered; "others say that you are Elijah, while others say that you are one of the prophets." NIV 28 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” GNT 29 "What about you?" he asked them. "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Messiah." NIV 29 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.” GNT 30 Then Jesus ordered them, "Do not tell anyone about me." NIV 30 Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him. GNT 31 Then Jesus began to teach his disciples: "The Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law. He will be put to death, but three days later he will rise to life." NIV 31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. GNT 32 He made this very clear to them. So Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. NIV 32 He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. GNT 33 But Jesus turned around, looked at his disciples, and rebuked Peter. "Get away from me, Satan," he said. "Your thoughts don't come from God but from human nature!" NIV 33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” GNT 34 Then Jesus called the crowd and his disciples to him. "If any of you want to come with me," he told them, "you must forget yourself, carry your cross, and follow me. NIV 34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. GNT 35 For if you want to save your own life, you will lose it; but if you lose your life for me and for the gospel, you will save it. NIV 35 For whoever wants to save their lifewill lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. GNT 36 Do you gain anything if you win the whole world but lose your life? Of course not! NIV 36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? GNT 37 There is nothing you can give to regain your life. NIV 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?
