5 These twelve Jesus sent forth and commanded them, saying, Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter into <em>any</em> city of the Samaritans,

These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans.
6 but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of the heavens has come.

As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons; freely ye have received, freely give.

Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
9 Provide neither gold nor silver nor money in your girdles,

“Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts—
10 nor bag for <em>your</em> journey, neither two coats, neither shoes nor a staff, for the workman is worthy of his food.

11 And into whatever city or town ye shall enter, search out <em>with diligence</em> who in it is worthy; and there abide until ye go from there.

Whatever town or village you enter, search there for some worthy person and stay at their house until you leave.
12 And entering into the house, salute it.

As you enter the home, give it your greeting.
13 And if the house is worthy, your peace shall come upon it; but if it is not worthy, your peace shall return to you.

If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you.
14 And whosoever shall not receive you nor hear your words, depart out of that house or city and shake off the dust of your feet.

If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.
