50 and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
51 Jesus said unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They answered unto him, Yes, Lord.
51 “Have you understood all these things?” Jesus asked. “Yes,” they replied.
52 And he said unto them, Therefore every scribe <em>who is</em> instructed in the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a man, a husband of a house, who brings forth out of his treasure <em>things</em> new and old.
52 He said to them, “Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.”
53 And it came to pass, <em>that</em> when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed from there.
53 When Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there.
54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished and said, From where does this <em>man</em> have this wisdom and <em>these</em> mighty works?
54 Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked.
55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?
55 “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?
56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? From where then does this <em>man</em> have all these things?
56 Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?”
57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour except in his own country and in his own house.
57 And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.”
58 And he did not <em>do</em> many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
58 And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.
