Matthew 16:20-28

NRSA 20 Then he sternly ordered the disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah. NIV 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah. NRSA 21 From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and undergo great suffering at the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. NIV 21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. NRSA 22 And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, "God forbid it, Lord! This must never happen to you." NIV 22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!” NRSA 23 But he turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; for you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things." NIV 23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” NRSA 24 Then Jesus told his disciples, "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. NIV 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. NRSA 25 For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. NIV 25 For whoever wants to save their lifewill lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. NRSA 26 For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life? NIV 26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? NRSA 27 "For the Son of Man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay everyone for what has been done. NIV 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done. NRSA 28 Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom." NIV 28 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”
