Matthew 6:1-18

CSB 1 "Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of people, to be seen by them. Otherwise, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. NIV 1 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. CSB 2 So whenever you give to the poor, don't sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be applauded by people. I assure you: They've got their reward! NIV 2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. CSB 3 But when you give to the poor, don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, NIV 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, CSB 4 so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. NIV 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. CSB 5 "Whenever you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by people. I assure you: They've got their reward! NIV 5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. CSB 6 But when you pray, go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. NIV 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. CSB 7 When you pray, don't babble like the idolaters, since they imagine they'll be heard for their many words. NIV 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. CSB 8 Don't be like them, because your Father knows the things you need before you ask Him. NIV 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. CSB 9 "Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, Your name be honored as holy. NIV 9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, CSB 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. NIV 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. CSB 11 Give us today our daily bread. NIV 11 Give us today our daily bread. CSB 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. NIV 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. CSB 13 And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.] NIV 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ CSB 14 "For if you forgive people their wrongdoing, your heavenly Father will forgive you as well. NIV 14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. CSB 15 But if you don't forgive people, your Father will not forgive your wrongdoing. NIV 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. CSB 16 "Whenever you fast, don't be sad-faced like the hypocrites. For they make their faces unattractive so their fasting is obvious to people. I assure you: They've got their reward! NIV 16 “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. CSB 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head, and wash your face, NIV 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, CSB 18 so that you don't show your fasting to people but to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. NIV 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
