1 Nǐ búyào jídù è rén , yĕ búyào qǐ yì yǔ tāmen xiāng chù .

Do not envy the wicked, do not desire their company;
2 Yīnwei tāmende xīn , tú móu qiángbào . tāmende kǒu tánlùn jiān è .

for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about making trouble.
3 Fángwū yīn zhìhuì jiànzào , yòu yīn cōngming lì wĕn .

By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established;
4 Qízhōng yīn zhīshi chōngmǎn gèyàng mĕihǎo bǎoguì de cáiwù .

through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.
5 Zhìhuì rén dà yǒu nénglì . yǒu zhīshi de rén , lì shang jiā lì .

The wise prevail through great power, and those who have knowledge muster their strength.
6 Nǐ qù dǎzhàng , yào píng zhì móu . móu shì zhòngduō , rén biàn déshèng .

Surely you need guidance to wage war, and victory is won through many advisers.
7 Zhìhuì jí gāo , fēi yúmeì rén suǒ néng jí , suǒyǐ zaì chéng mén neì , bù gǎn kāikǒu .

Wisdom is too high for fools; in the assembly at the gate they must not open their mouths.

Whoever plots evil will be known as a schemer.
9 Yú wàng rén de sīniàn , nǎi shì zuìè . xiè màn zhĕ wéirén suǒ zēngwù .

The schemes of folly are sin, and people detest a mocker.
10 Nǐ zaì huànnàn zhī rì ruò dǎnqiè , nǐde lìliang jiù wēi xiǎo .

If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength!
11 Rén beì lā dào sǐdì , nǐ yào jiĕ jiù . rén jiāng beì shā , nǐ xū lánzǔ .

Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter.
12 Nǐ ruò shuō , zhè shì wǒ wèicéng zhīdào . nà héng liáng rén xīn de , qǐbù míngbai ma . bǎoshǒu nǐ méng de , qǐbù zhīdào ma . tā qǐbù àn gèrén suǒ xíng de , bàoyìng gèrén ma .

If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?
13 Wǒ ér , nǐ yào chī mì , yīnwei shì hǎo de . chī fēng fáng xià dī de mì , gèng jué gān tián .

Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to your taste.
14 Nǐ xīn dé le zhìhuì , yĕ bì jiào de rúcǐ . nǐ ruò zhǎo zhe , zhì zhōng bì yǒu shàn bào . nǐde zhǐwang , yĕ bù zhì duàn jué .

Know also that wisdom is like honey for you: If you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.
15 Nǐ zhè è rén , búyào máifu gōngjī yì rén de jiā . búyào huǐhuaì tā ān jū zhī suǒ .

Do not lurk like a thief near the house of the righteous, do not plunder their dwelling place;
16 Yīnwei yì rén suī qī cì diēdǎo , réng bì xīngqǐ . è rén què beì huòhuàn qīng dǎo .

for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.
17 Nǐ chóudí diēdǎo , nǐ búyào huānxǐ . tā qīng dǎo , nǐ xīn búyào kuaìlè .

Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice,
18 Kǒngpà Yēhéhuá kànjian jiù bù xǐyuè , jiāng nùqì cóng chóudí shēnshang zhuǎn guo lái .

or the LORD will see and disapprove and turn his wrath away from them.
19 Búyào wèi zuò è de xīnhuái bù píng . yĕ búyào jídù è rén .

Do not fret because of evildoers or be envious of the wicked,
20 Yīnwei è rén zhōng bùdé shàn bào . è rén de dēng yĕ bì xī miè .

for the evildoer has no future hope, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.
21 Wǒ ér , nǐ yào jìngwèi Yēhéhuá yǔ jūnwáng . búyào yǔ fǎn fù wú cháng de rén jiéjiāo .

Fear the LORD and the king, my son, and do not join with rebellious officials,
22 Yīnwei tāmende zāinàn , bì hūrán ér qǐ . Yēhéhuá yǔ jūnwáng suǒ shīxíng de huǐmiè , shuí néng zhīdào ne .

for those two will send sudden destruction on them, and who knows what calamities they can bring?
23 Yǐxià yĕ shì zhìhuì rén de zhēnyán . shĕnpàn shí kàn rén de qíngmian , shì bù hǎo de .

These also are sayings of the wise: To show partiality in judging is not good:
24 Duì è rén shuō , nǐ shì yì rén de , zhè rén wàn mín bì zhòuzǔ , liè bāng bì zēngwù .

Whoever says to the guilty, “You are innocent,” will be cursed by peoples and denounced by nations.
25 Zébeì è rén de , bì dé xǐyuè . mĕihǎo de fú , yĕ bì líndào tā .

But it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and rich blessing will come on them.
26 Yìngduì zhèngzhí de , yóu rú yǔ rén qīnzuǐ.

An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.
27 Nǐ yào zaì waì tóu yùbeì gōng liào , zaì tiánjiān bànlǐ zhĕngqí , ránhòu jiànzào fángwū .

Put your outdoor work in order and get your fields ready; after that, build your house.
28 Bùkĕ wú gù zuò jiànzhèng , xiànhaì línshè . yĕ bùkĕ yòng zuǐqīpiàn rén .

Do not testify against your neighbor without cause— would you use your lips to mislead?
29 Bùkĕ shuō , rén zĕnyàng duìdaì wǒ , wǒ yĕ zĕnyàng dāi tā , wǒ bì zhào tā suǒ xíng de bàofù tā .

Do not say, “I’ll do to them as they have done to me; I’ll pay them back for what they did.”
30 Wǒ jīngguò lǎnduò rén de tiándì , wúzhī rén de pútaóyuán .

I went past the field of a sluggard, past the vineyard of someone who has no sense;
31 Jīngjí zhǎng mǎn le dì pí , cī cǎo zhēgaì le tián miàn , shí qiáng yĕ tān tā le .

thorns had come up everywhere, the ground was covered with weeds, and the stone wall was in ruins.
32 Wǒ kànjian jiù liú xīn sīxiǎng , wǒ kàn zhe jiù lǐng le xùn huì .

I applied my heart to what I observed and learned a lesson from what I saw:
33 Zaì shuì piànshí , dǎdún piànshí , bào zhe shǒu tǎng wò piànshí ,

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—
34 Nǐde pínqióng , jiù bì rú qiángdào sù lái , nǐde quē fá , fǎngfú ná bīngqì de rén lái dào .

and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.
