RHE

NIV

1 (36-1) Be not emulous of evildoers; nor envy them that work iniquity.
1 Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong;
2 (36-2) For they shall shortly wither away as grass, and as the green herbs shall quickly fall.
2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.
3 (36-3) Trust in the Lord, and do good, and dwell in the land, and thou shalt be fed with its riches.
3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 (36-4) Delight in the Lord, and he will give thee the requests of thy heart.
4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 (36-5) Commit thy way to the Lord, and trust in him, and he will do it.
5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:
6 (36-6) And he will bring forth thy justice as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
6 He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.
7 (36-7) Be subject to the Lord and pray to him. Envy not the man who prospereth in his way; the man who doth unjust things.
7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
8 (36-8) Cease from anger, and leave rage; have no emulation to do evil.
8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.
9 (36-9) For evildoers shall be cut off: but they that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the land.
9 For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.
10 (36-10) For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: and thou shalt seek his place, and shalt not find it.
10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.
11 (36-11) But the meek shall inherit the land, and shall delight in abundance of peace.
11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity.
12 (36-12) The sinner shall watch the just man: and shall gnash upon him with his teeth.
12 The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them;
13 (36-13) But the Lord shall laugh at him: for he foreseeth that his day shall come.
13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming.
14 (36-14) The wicked have drawn out the sword: they have bent their bow. To cast down the poor and needy, to kill the upright of heart.
14 The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright.
15 (36-15) Let their sword enter into their own hearts, and let their bow be broken.
15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.
16 (36-16) Better is a little to the just, than the great riches of the wicked.
16 Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked;
17 (36-17) For the arms of the wicked shall be broken in pieces; but the Lord strengtheneth the just.
17 for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous.
18 (36-18) The Lord knoweth the days of the undefiled; and their inheritance shall be for ever.
18 The blameless spend their days under the LORD’s care, and their inheritance will endure forever.
19 (36-19) They shall not be confounded in the evil time; and in the days of famine they shall be filled:
19 In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty.
20 (36-20) Because the wicked shall perish. And the enemies of the Lord, presently after they shall be honoured and exalted, shall come to nothing and vanish like smoke.
20 But the wicked will perish: Though the LORD’s enemies are like the flowers of the field, they will be consumed, they will go up in smoke.
21 (36-21) The sinner shall borrow, and not pay again; but the just sheweth mercy and shall give.
21 The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously;
22 (36-22) For such as bless him shall inherit the land: but such as curse him shall perish.
22 those the LORD blesses will inherit the land, but those he curses will be destroyed.
23 (36-23) With the Lord shall the steps of a man be directed, and he shall like well his way.
23 The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him;
24 (36-24) When he shall fall he shall not be bruised, for the Lord putteth his hand under him.
24 though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.
25 (36-25) I have been young and now am old; and I have not seen the just forsaken, nor his seed seeking bread.
25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.
26 (36-26) He sheweth mercy, and lendeth all the day long; and his seed shall be in blessing.
26 They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be a blessing.
27 (36-27) Decline from evil and do good, and dwell for ever and ever.
27 Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever.
28 (36-28) For the Lord loveth judgment, and will not forsake his saints: they shall be preserved for ever. The unjust shall be punished, and the seed of the wicked shall perish.
28 For the LORD loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. Wrongdoers will be completely destroyed ; the offspring of the wicked will perish.
29 (36-29) But the just shall inherit the land, and shall dwell therein for evermore.
29 The righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever.
30 (36-30) The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom: and his tongue shall speak judgment.
30 The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom, and their tongues speak what is just.
31 (36-31) The law of his God is in his heart, and his steps shall not be supplanted.
31 The law of their God is in their hearts; their feet do not slip.
32 (36-32) The wicked watcheth the just man, and seeketh to put him to death,
32 The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, intent on putting them to death;
33 (36-33) But the Lord will not leave him in his hands; nor condemn him when he shall be judged.
33 but the LORD will not leave them in the power of the wicked or let them be condemned when brought to trial.
34 (36-34) Expect the Lord and keep his way: and he will exalt thee to inherit the land: when the sinners shall perish thou shalt see.
34 Hope in the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are destroyed, you will see it.
35 (36-35) I have seen the wicked highly exalted, and lifted up like the cedars of Libanus.
35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like a luxuriant native tree,
36 (36-36) And I passed by, and lo, he was not: and I sought him and his place was not found.
36 but he soon passed away and was no more; though I looked for him, he could not be found.
37 (36-37) Keep innocence, and behold justice: for there are remnants for the peaceable man.
37 Consider the blameless, observe the upright; a future awaits those who seek peace.
38 (36-38) But the unjust shall be destroyed to gether: the remnants of the wicked shall perish.
38 But all sinners will be destroyed; there will be no future for the wicked.
39 (36-39) But the salvation of the just is from the Lord, and he is their protector in the time of trouble.
39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD; he is their stronghold in time of trouble.
40 (36-40) And the Lord will help them and deliver them: and he will rescue them from the wicked, and save them because they have hoped in him.
