CSB 1 God, listen to my prayer and do not ignore my plea for help. NIV 1 Listen to my prayer, O God, do not ignore my plea; CSB 2 Pay attention to me and answer me. I am restless and in turmoil with my complaint, NIV 2 hear me and answer me. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught CSB 3 because of the enemy's voice, because of the pressure of the wicked. For they bring down disaster on me and harass me in anger. NIV 3 because of what my enemy is saying, because of the threats of the wicked; for they bring down suffering on me and assail me in their anger. CSB 4 My heart shudders within me; terrors of death sweep over me. NIV 4 My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen on me. CSB 5 Fear and trembling grip me; horror has overwhelmed me. NIV 5 Fear and trembling have beset me; horror has overwhelmed me. CSB 6 I said, "If only I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and find rest. NIV 6 I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest. CSB 7 How far away I would flee; I would stay in the wilderness. Selah NIV 7 I would flee far away and stay in the desert; CSB 8 I would hurry to my shelter from the raging wind and the storm." NIV 8 I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm.” CSB 9 Lord, confuse and confound their speech, for I see violence and strife in the city; NIV 9 Lord, confuse the wicked, confound their words, for I see violence and strife in the city. CSB 10 day and night they make the rounds on its walls. Crime and trouble are within it; NIV 10 Day and night they prowl about on its walls; malice and abuse are within it. CSB 11 destruction is inside it; oppression and deceit never leave its marketplace. NIV 11 Destructive forces are at work in the city; threats and lies never leave its streets. CSB 12 Now, it is not an enemy who insults me- otherwise I could bear it; it is not a foe who rises up against me- otherwise I could hide from him. NIV 12 If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were rising against me, I could hide. CSB 13 But it is you, a man who is my peer, my companion and good friend! NIV 13 But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, CSB 14 We used to have close fellowship; we walked with the crowd into the house of God. NIV 14 with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship at the house of God, as we walked about among the worshipers. CSB 15 Let death take them by surprise; let them go down to Sheol alive, because evil is in their homes and within them. NIV 15 Let death take my enemies by surprise; let them go down alive to the realm of the dead, for evil finds lodging among them. CSB 16 But I call to God, and the Lord will save me. NIV 16 As for me, I call to God, and the LORD saves me. CSB 17 I complain and groan morning, noon, and night, and He hears my voice. NIV 17 Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. CSB 18 Though many are against me, He will redeem me from my battle unharmed. NIV 18 He rescues me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose me. CSB 19 God, the One enthroned from long ago, will hear, and will humiliate them Selah because they do not change and do not fear God. NIV 19 God, who is enthroned from of old, who does not change— he will hear them and humble them, because they have no fear of God. CSB 21 His buttery words are smooth, but war is in his heart. His words are softer than oil, but they are drawn swords. NIV 21 His talk is smooth as butter, yet war is in his heart; his words are more soothing than oil, yet they are drawn swords. NIV 22 Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. CSB 23 You, God, will bring them down to the pit of destruction; men of bloodshed and treachery will not live out half their days. But I will trust in You. NIV 23 But you, God, will bring down the wicked into the pit of decay; the bloodthirsty and deceitful will not live out half their days. But as for me, I trust in you.
