Psalm 69

CSB 1 Save me, God, for the water has risen to my neck. NIV 1 Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. CSB 2 I have sunk in deep mud, and there is no footing; I have come into deep waters, and a flood sweeps over me. NIV 2 I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me. CSB 3 I am weary from my crying; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God. NIV 3 I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God. CSB 4 Those who hate me without cause are more numerous than the hairs of my head; my deceitful enemies, who would destroy me, are powerful. Though I did not steal, I must repay. NIV 4 Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause, those who seek to destroy me. I am forced to restore what I did not steal. CSB 5 God, You know my foolishness, and my guilty acts are not hidden from You. NIV 5 You, God, know my folly; my guilt is not hidden from you. CSB 6 Do not let those who put their hope in You be disgraced because of me, Lord God of Hosts; do not let those who seek You be humiliated because of me, God of Israel. NIV 6 Lord, the LORD Almighty, may those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me; God of Israel, may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me. CSB 7 For I have endured insults because of You, and shame has covered my face. NIV 7 For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face. CSB 8 I have become a stranger to my brothers and a foreigner to my mother's sons NIV 8 I am a foreigner to my own family, a stranger to my own mother’s children; CSB 9 because zeal for Your house has consumed me, and the insults of those who insult You have fallen on me. NIV 9 for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me. CSB 10 I mourned and fasted, but it brought me insults. NIV 10 When I weep and fast, I must endure scorn; CSB 11 I wore sackcloth as my clothing, and I was a joke to them. NIV 11 when I put on sackcloth, people make sport of me. CSB 12 Those who sit at the city gate talk about me, and drunkards make up songs about me. NIV 12 Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards. CSB 13 But as for me, Lord, my prayer to You is for a time of favor. In Your abundant, faithful love, God, answer me with Your sure salvation. NIV 13 But I pray to you, LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation. CSB 14 Rescue me from the miry mud; don't let me sink. Let me be rescued from those who hate me, and from the deep waters. NIV 14 Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters. CSB 15 Don't let the floodwaters sweep over me or the deep swallow me up; don't let the Pit close its mouth over me. NIV 15 Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me. CSB 16 Answer me, Lord, for Your faithful love is good; in keeping with Your great compassion, turn to me. NIV 16 Answer me, LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me. CSB 17 Don't hide Your face from Your servant, for I am in distress. Answer me quickly! NIV 17 Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble. CSB 18 Draw near to me and redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies. NIV 18 Come near and rescue me; deliver me because of my foes. CSB 19 You know the insults I endure- my shame and disgrace. You are aware of all my adversaries. NIV 19 You know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed; all my enemies are before you. CSB 20 Insults have broken my heart, and I am in despair. I waited for sympathy, but there was none; for comforters, but found no one. NIV 20 Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, for comforters, but I found none. CSB 21 Instead, they gave me gall for my food, and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. NIV 21 They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst. CSB 22 Let their table set before them be a snare, and let it be a trap for [their] allies. NIV 22 May the table set before them become a snare; may it become retribution and a trap. CSB 23 Let their eyes grow too dim to see, and let their loins continually shake. NIV 23 May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever. CSB 24 Pour out Your rage on them, and let Your burning anger overtake them. NIV 24 Pour out your wrath on them; let your fierce anger overtake them. CSB 25 Make their fortification desolate; may no one live in their tents. NIV 25 May their place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in their tents. CSB 26 For they persecute the one You struck and talk about the pain of those You wounded. NIV 26 For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt. CSB 27 Add guilt to their guilt; do not let them share in Your righteousness. NIV 27 Charge them with crime upon crime; do not let them share in your salvation. CSB 28 Let them be erased from the book of life and not be recorded with the righteous. NIV 28 May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous. CSB 29 But as for me-poor and in pain- let Your salvation protect me, God. NIV 29 But as for me, afflicted and in pain— may your salvation, God, protect me. CSB 30 I will praise God's name with song and exalt Him with thanksgiving. NIV 30 I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. CSB 31 That will please the Lord more than an ox, more than a bull with horns and hooves. NIV 31 This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hooves. CSB 32 The humble will see it and rejoice. You who seek God, take heart! NIV 32 The poor will see and be glad— you who seek God, may your hearts live! CSB 33 For the Lord listens to the needy and does not despise His own who are prisoners. NIV 33 The LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people. CSB 34 Let heaven and earth praise Him, the seas and everything that moves in them, NIV 34 Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them, CSB 35 for God will save Zion and build up the cities of Judah. They will live there and possess it. NIV 35 for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it; CSB 36 The descendants of His servants will inherit it, and those who love His name will live in it. NIV 36 the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.
