1 Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, <em>unto thee</em> do we give thanks, for <em>that</em> thy name is near, thy wondrous works declare.

We praise you, God, we praise you, for your Name is near; people tell of your wonderful deeds.
2 When I shall receive the congregation, I will judge uprightly.

You say, “I choose the appointed time; it is I who judge with equity.
3 The earth and all its inhabitants are dissolved; I bore up the pillars of it. Selah.

When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm.
4 I said unto the fools, Do not deal foolishly and to the wicked, Do not lift up the horn:

To the arrogant I say, ‘Boast no more,’ and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horns.
5 Do not lift up your horn on high; speak <em>not with</em> a stiff neck.

Do not lift your horns against heaven; do not speak so defiantly.’ ”
6 For promotion <em>comes</em> neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the desert.

No one from the east or the west or from the desert can exalt themselves.
7 But God <em>is</em> the judge; he puts down one and sets up another.

It is God who judges: He brings one down, he exalts another.
8 For the cup is in the hand of the LORD, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he pours out of the same; yea, the dregs thereof, shall wring out and swallow up all the wicked of the earth.

In the hand of the LORD is a cup full of foaming wine mixed with spices; he pours it out, and all the wicked of the earth drink it down to its very dregs.
9 But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.

As for me, I will declare this forever; I will sing praise to the God of Jacob,
10 And I will cut off all the horns of the wicked, <em>but</em> the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.

who says, “I will cut off the horns of all the wicked, but the horns of the righteous will be lifted up.”
