Psalm 8

ESV 1 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. MSG 1 God, brilliant Lord, yours is a household name. ESV 2 Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger. MSG 2 Nursing infants gurgle choruses about you; toddlers shout the songs That drown out enemy talk, and silence atheist babble. ESV 3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, MSG 3 I look up at your macro-skies, dark and enormous, your handmade sky-jewelry, Moon and stars mounted in their settings. ESV 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? MSG 4 Then I look at my micro-self and wonder, Why do you bother with us? Why take a second look our way? ESV 5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. MSG 5 Yet we've so narrowly missed being gods, bright with Eden's dawn light. ESV 6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, MSG 6 You put us in charge of your handcrafted world, repeated to us your Genesis-charge, ESV 7 all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, MSG 7 Made us lords of sheep and cattle, even animals out in the wild, ESV 8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. MSG 8 Birds flying and fish swimming, whales singing in the ocean deeps. ESV 9 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! MSG 9 God, brilliant Lord, your name echoes around the world.
