Psalm 80

CEB 1 Shepherd of Israel, listen! You, the one who leads Joseph as if he were a sheep. You, who are enthroned upon the winged heavenly creatures. Show yourself NIV 1 Hear us, Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You who sit enthroned between the cherubim, shine forth CEB 2 before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh! Wake up your power! Come to save us! NIV 2 before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh. Awaken your might; come and save us. CEB 3 Restore us, God! Make your face shine so that we can be saved! NIV 3 Restore us, O God; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved. CEB 4 LORD God of heavenly forces, how long will you fume against your people's prayer? NIV 4 How long, LORD God Almighty, will your anger smolder against the prayers of your people? CEB 5 You've fed them bread made of tears; you've given them tears to drink three times over! NIV 5 You have fed them with the bread of tears; you have made them drink tears by the bowlful. CEB 6 You've put us at odds with our neighbors; our enemies make fun of us. NIV 6 You have made us an object of derision to our neighbors, and our enemies mock us. CEB 7 Restore us, God of heavenly forces! Make your face shine so that we can be saved! NIV 7 Restore us, God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved. CEB 8 You brought a vine out of Egypt. You drove out the nations and planted it. NIV 8 You transplanted a vine from Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it. CEB 9 You cleared the ground for it; then it planted its roots deep, filling the land. NIV 9 You cleared the ground for it, and it took root and filled the land. CEB 10 The mountains were covered by its shade; the mighty cedars were covered by its branches. NIV 10 The mountains were covered with its shade, the mighty cedars with its branches. CEB 11 It sent its branches all the way to the sea; its shoots went all the way to the Euphrates River. NIV 11 Its branches reached as far as the Sea,its shoots as far as the River. CEB 12 So why have you now torn down its walls so that all who come along can pluck its fruit, NIV 12 Why have you broken down its walls so that all who pass by pick its grapes? CEB 13 so that any boar from the forest can tear it up, so that the bugs can feed on it? NIV 13 Boars from the forest ravage it, and insects from the fields feed on it. CEB 14 Please come back, God of heavenly forces! Look down from heaven and perceive it! Attend to this vine, NIV 14 Return to us, God Almighty! Look down from heaven and see! Watch over this vine, CEB 15 this root that you planted with your strong hand, this son whom you secured as your very own. NIV 15 the root your right hand has planted, the son you have raised up for yourself. CEB 16 It is burned with fire. It is chopped down. They die at the rebuke coming from you. NIV 16 Your vine is cut down, it is burned with fire; at your rebuke your people perish. CEB 17 Let your hand be with the one on your right side— with the one whom you secured as your own— NIV 17 Let your hand rest on the man at your right hand, the son of man you have raised up for yourself. CEB 18 then we will not turn away from you! Revive us so that we can call on your name. NIV 18 Then we will not turn away from you; revive us, and we will call on your name. CEB 19 Restore us, LORD God of heavenly forces! Make your face shine so that we can be saved! NIV 19 Restore us, LORD God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved.
