Psalms 17

1 (16-1) <The prayer of David.> Hear, O Lord, my justice: attend to my supplication. Give ear unto my prayer, which proceedeth not from deceitful lips.

2 (16-2) Let my judgment come forth from thy countenance: let thy eyes behold the things that are equitable.

3 (16-3) Thou hast proved my heart, and visited it by night, thou hast tried me by fire: and iniquity hath not been found in me.

4 (16-4) That my mouth may not speak the works of men: for the sake of the words of thy lips, I have kept hard ways.

5 (16-5) Perfect thou my goings in thy paths: that my footsteps be not moved.

6 (16-6) I have cried to thee, for thou, O God, hast heard me: O incline thy ear unto me, and hear my words.

7 (16-7) Shew forth thy wonderful mercies; thou who savest them that trust in thee.

8 (16-8) From them that resist thy right hand keep me, as the apple of thy eye. Protect me under the shadow of thy wings.

9 (16-9) From the face of the wicked who have afflicted me. My enemies have surrounded my soul:

10 (16-10) They have shut up their fat: their mouth hath spoken proudly.

11 (16-11) They have cast me forth, and now they have surrounded me: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth.

12 (16-12) They have taken me, as a lion prepared for the prey; and as a young lion dwelling in secret places.

13 (16-13) Arise, O Lord, disappoint him and supplant him; deliver my soul from the wicked one; thy sword

14 (16-14) From the enemies of thy hand. O Lord, divide them from the few of the earth in their life: their belly is filled from thy hidden stores. They are full of children: and they have left to their little ones the rest of their substance.

15 (16-15) But as for me, I will appear before thy sight in justice: I shall be satisfied when thy glory shall appear.

Psalms 35

1 (34-1) <For David himself.> Judge thou, O Lord, them that wrong me: overthrow them that fight against me.

2 (34-2) Take hold of arms and shield: and rise up to help me.

3 (34-3) Bring out the sword, and shut up the way against them that persecute me: say to my soul: I am thy salvation.

4 (34-4) Let them be confounded and ashamed that seek after my soul. Let them be turned back and be confounded that devise evil against me.

5 (34-5) Let them become as dust before the wind: and let the angel of the Lord straiten them.

6 (34-6) Let their way become dark and slippery; and let the angel of the Lord pursue them.

7 (34-7) For without cause they have hidden their net for me unto destruction: without cause they have upbraided my soul.

8 (34-8) Let the snare which he knoweth not come upon him: and let the net which he hath hidden catch him: and into that very snare let them fall.

9 (34-9) But my soul shall rejoice in the Lord; and shall be delighted in his salvation.

10 (34-10) All my bones shall say: Lord, who is like to thee? Who deliverest the poor from the hand of them that are stronger than he; the needy and the poor from them that strip him.

11 (34-11) Unjust witnesses rising up have asked me things I knew not.

12 (34-12) They repaid me evil for good: to the depriving me of my soul.

13 (34-13) But as for me, when they were troublesome to me, I was clothed with haircloth. I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer shall be turned into my bosom.

14 (34-14) As a neighbour and as an own brother, so did I please: as one mourning and sorrowful so was I humbled.

15 (34-15) But they rejoiced against me, and came together: scourges were gathered together upon me, and I knew not.

16 (34-16) They were separated, and repented not: they tempted me, they scoffed at me with scorn: they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

17 (34-17) Lord, when wilt thou look upon me? rescue thou my soul from their malice: my only one from the lions.

18 (34-18) I will give thanks to thee in a great church; I will praise thee in a strong people.

19 (34-19) Let not them that are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: who have hated me without cause, and wink with the eyes.

20 (34-20) For they spoke indeed peaceably to me; and speaking in the anger of the earth they devised guile.

21 (34-21) And they opened their mouth wide against me; they said: Well done, well done, our eyes have seen it.

22 (34-22) Thou hast seen, O Lord, be not thou silent: O Lord, depart not from me.

23 (34-23) Arise, and be attentive to my judgment: to my cause, my God, and my Lord.

24 (34-24) Judge me, O Lord my God according to thy justice, and let them not rejoice over me.

25 (34-25) Let them not say in their hearts: It is well, it is well, to our mind: neither let them say: We have swallowed him up.

26 (34-26) Let them blush: and be ashamed to gether, who rejoice at my evils. Let them be clothed with confusion and shame, who speak great things against me.

27 (34-27) Let them rejoice and be glad, who are well pleased with my justice, and let them say always: The Lord be magnified, who delights in the peace of his servant.

28 (34-28) And my tongue shall meditate thy justice, thy praise all the day long.

Psalms 54

1 (53-1) <Unto the end, in verses, understanding for David. (53-2) When the end of Ziph had come and said to Saul: Is not David hidden with us?> (53-3) Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me in thy strength.

2 (53-4) O God, hear my prayer: give ear to the words of my mouth.

3 (53-5) For strangers have risen up against me; and the mighty have sought after my soul: and they have not set God before their eyes.

4 (53-6) For behold God is my helper: and the Lord is the protector of my soul.

5 (53-7) Turn back the evils upon my enemies; and cut them off in thy truth.

6 (53-8) I will freely sacrifice to thee, and will give praise, O God, to thy name: because it is good:

7 (53-9) For thou hast delivered me out of all trouble: and my eye hath looked down upon my enemies.

Psalms 63

1 (62-1) <A psalm of David while he was in the desert of Edom.> (62-2) O God, my God, to thee do I watch at break of day. For thee my soul hath thirsted; for thee my flesh, O how many ways!

2 (62-3) In a desert land, and where there is no way, and no water: so in the sanctuary have I come before thee, to see thy power and thy glory.

3 (62-4) For thy mercy is better than lives: thee my lips will praise.

4 (62-5) Thus will I bless thee all my life long: and in thy name I will lift up my hands.

5 (62-6) Let my soul be filled as with marrow and fatness: and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips.

6 (62-7) If I have remembered thee upon my bed, I will meditate on thee in the morning:

7 (62-8) Because thou hast been my helper. And I will rejoice under the covert of thy wings:

8 (62-9) My soul hath stuck close to thee: thy right hand hath received me.

9 (62-10) But they have fought my soul in vain, they shall go into the lower parts of the earth:

10 (62-11) They shall be delivered into the hands of the sword, they shall be the portions of foxes.

11 (62-12) But the king shall rejoice in God, all they shall be praised that swear by him: because the mouth is stopped of them that speak wicked things.
