and into an inheritance1 that can never perish, spoil or fade2--kept in heaven for you,35
who through faith are shielded by God's power4 until the coming of the salvation5 that is ready to be revealed6 in the last time.
In this you greatly rejoice,7 though now for a little while8 you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.97
These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire10--may be proved genuine11 and may result in praise, glory and honor12 when Jesus Christ is revealed.138
Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him14 and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,
for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.1510
Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke16 of the grace that was to come to you,17 searched intently and with the greatest care,1811
trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ19 in them was pointing when he predicted20 the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.
It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you,21 when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you22 by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven.23 Even angels long to look into these things.
Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled;24 set your hope25 fully on the grace to be given you26 when Jesus Christ is revealed.2714
As obedient28 children, do not conform29 to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.30
