But godliness with contentment1 is great gain.27
For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.38
But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.49
People who want to get rich5 fall into temptation and a trap6 and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction.
For the love of money7 is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith8 and pierced themselves with many griefs.9
But you, man of God,10 flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness,11 faith, love,12 endurance and gentleness.
Fight the good fight13 of the faith. Take hold of14 the eternal life15 to which you were called when you made your good confession16 in the presence of many witnesses.
In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate17 made the good confession,18 I charge you1914
to keep this command without spot or blame20 until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,2115
which God will bring about in his own time22--God, the blessed23 and only Ruler,24 the King of kings and Lord of lords,2516
who alone is immortal26 and who lives in unapproachable light,27 whom no one has seen or can see.28 To him be honor and might forever. Amen.29
