"However, the Most High1 does not live in houses made by men.2 As the prophet says:
" 'Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.3 What kind of house will you build for me? says the Lord. Or where will my resting place be?
Has not my hand made all these things?'4
"You stiff-necked people,5 with uncircumcised hearts6 and ears! You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit!
Was there ever a prophet your fathers did not persecute?7 They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him8--
you who have received the law that was put into effect through angels9 but have not obeyed it."
When they heard this, they were furious10 and gnashed their teeth at him.
But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit,11 looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.12
"Look," he said, "I see heaven open13 and the Son of Man14 standing at the right hand of God."
At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him,
dragged him out of the city15 and began to stone him.16 Meanwhile, the witnesses17 laid their clothes18 at the feet of a young man named Saul.19
