"Go to Bethel1 and sin; go to Gilgal2 and sin yet more. Bring your sacrifices every morning,3 your tithes4 every three years.5
Burn leavened bread6 as a thank offering and brag about your freewill offerings7-- boast about them, you Israelites, for this is what you love to do," declares the Sovereign LORD.
"I gave you empty stomachs in every city and lack of bread in every town, yet you have not returned to me," declares the LORD.8
"I also withheld9 rain from you when the harvest was still three months away. I sent rain on one town, but withheld it from another.10 One field had rain; another had none and dried up.
People staggered from town to town for water11 but did not get enough12 to drink, yet you have not returned13 to me," declares the LORD.14
"Many times I struck your gardens and vineyards, I struck them with blight and mildew.15 Locusts16 devoured your fig and olive trees,17 yet you have not returned18 to me," declares the LORD.
"I sent plagues19 among you as I did to Egypt.20 I killed your young men21 with the sword, along with your captured horses. I filled your nostrils with the stench22 of your camps, yet you have not returned to me,"23 declares the LORD.24
"I overthrew some of you as I overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.25 You were like a burning stick26 snatched from the fire, yet you have not returned to me," declares the LORD.27
"Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel, and because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel."
He who forms the mountains,28 creates the wind,29 and reveals his thoughts30 to man, he who turns dawn to darkness, and treads the high places of the earth31-- the LORD God Almighty is his name.32
