Psalms 55:4

My heart is sore pained within me
At the civil war in his kingdom; at the battle likely to ensue between his forces and Absalom's, and at the issue of it; see ( Jeremiah 4:19 ) ; this was true of Christ in the garden, when his soul was exceeding sorrowful unto death, and he was in pain, as a woman in travail, as the word ^F17 here used signifies; and on the cross, when his heart, like wax, melted in the midst of his bowels;

and the terrors of death are fallen upon me;
see ( 2 Samuel 15:14 ) ; thus it was with the human nature of Christ, when he desired, if possible, the cup might pass from him.

2 Give thought to me, and let my prayer be answered: I have been made low in sorrow;

3 I am troubled because of the voice of the cruel ones, because of the loud cry of the evil-doers; for they put a weight of evil on me, and they are cruel in their hate for me.

4 My heart is deeply wounded, and the fear of death has come on me.

5 Fear and shaking have come over me, with deep fear I am covered.

6 And I said, If only I had wings like a dove! for then I would go in flight from here and be at rest.
