But 1grace was given 2to each one of us 3according to the measure of Christ's gift.
Therefore it says, 4"When he ascended on high 5he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men."
(6In saying, "He ascended," what does it mean but that he had also descended into 7the lower regions, the earth?a10
He who descended is the one who also 8ascended 9far above all the heavens, that he might 10fill all things.)
And 11he gave the 12apostles, the prophets, the 13evangelists, the 14shepherdsb and teachers,c1215to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for 16building up 17the body of Christ,
until we all attain to 18the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, 19to mature manhood,d to the measure of the stature of 20the fullness of Christ,
so that we may no longer be children, 21tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in 22deceitful schemes.
Rather, 23speaking the truth in love, we are to 24grow up in every way into him who is 25the head, into Christ,
1626from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, 27when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
