But the angel of the LORD1 called out to him from heaven,2 "Abraham! Abraham!"3 "Here I am,"4 he replied.
"Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said. "Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God,5 because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.6"
Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a rama caught by its horns.7 He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.814
So Abraham called9 that place The LORD10 Will Provide. And to this day it is said, "On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.11"
The angel of the LORD12 called to Abraham from heaven13 a second time
and said, "I swear by myself,14 declares the LORD, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,1517
I will surely bless you16 and make your descendants17 as numerous as the stars in the sky18 and as the sand on the seashore.19 Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,2018
and through your offspringb all nations on earth will be blessed,21 because you have obeyed me."22
