I know all about Ephraim; Israel is not hidden1 from me. Ephraim, you have now turned to prostitution; Israel is corrupt.24
"Their deeds do not permit them to return3 to their God. A spirit of prostitution4 is in their heart; they do not acknowledge5 the LORD.
Israel's arrogance testifies6 against them; the Israelites, even Ephraim, stumble7 in their sin; Judah also stumbles with them.86
When they go with their flocks and herds to seek the LORD,9 they will not find him; he has withdrawn10 himself from them.
They are unfaithful11 to the LORD; they give birth to illegitimate12 children. Now their New Moon festivals13 will devour14 them and their fields.
"Sound the trumpet15 in Gibeah,16 the horn in Ramah.17 Raise the battle cry in Beth Avena;18 lead on, O Benjamin.
Ephraim will be laid waste19 on the day of reckoning.20 Among the tribes of Israel I proclaim what is certain.2110
Judah's leaders are like those who move boundary stones.22 I will pour out my wrath23 on them like a flood of water.
Ephraim is oppressed, trampled in judgment, intent on pursuing idols.b2412
I am like a moth25 to Ephraim, like rot26 to the people of Judah.
"When Ephraim27 saw his sickness, and Judah his sores, then Ephraim turned to Assyria,28 and sent to the great king for help.29 But he is not able to cure30 you, not able to heal your sores.3114
For I will be like a lion32 to Ephraim, like a great lion to Judah. I will tear them to pieces33 and go away; I will carry them off, with no one to rescue them.34
