Isaiah 49:5-13 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
5 And now the LORD says-- he who formed me in the womb1 to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel2 to himself, for I am honored3 in the eyes of the LORD and my God has been my strength4-- 6 he says: "It is too small a thing for you to be my servant5 to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept.6 I will also make you a light7 for the Gentiles,8 that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth."9 7 This is what the LORD says-- the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel10-- to him who was despised11 and abhorred by the nation, to the servant of rulers: "Kings12 will see you and rise up, princes will see and bow down,13 because of the LORD, who is faithful,14 the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen15 you."

Restoration of Israel

8 This is what the LORD says: "In the time of my favor16 I will answer you, and in the day of salvation I will help you;17 I will keep18 you and will make you to be a covenant for the people,19 to restore the land20 and to reassign its desolate inheritances,21 9 to say to the captives,22 'Come out,' and to those in darkness,23 'Be free!' "They will feed beside the roads and find pasture on every barren hill.24 10 They will neither hunger nor thirst,25 nor will the desert heat or the sun beat upon them.26 He who has compassion27 on them will guide28 them and lead them beside springs29 of water. 11 I will turn all my mountains into roads, and my highways30 will be raised up.31 12 See, they will come from afar32-- some from the north, some from the west,33 some from the region of Aswan.a " 13 Shout for joy,34 O heavens; rejoice, O earth;35 burst into song, O mountains!36 For the LORD comforts37 his people and will have compassion38 on his afflicted ones.39
