I will wait1 for the LORD, who is hiding2 his face from the house of Jacob. I will put my trust in him.318

When men tell you to consult8 mediums and spiritists,9 who whisper and mutter,10 should not a people inquire11 of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?
To the law12 and to the testimony!13 If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light14 of dawn.
Distressed and hungry,15 they will roam through the land;16 when they are famished, they will become enraged and, looking upward, will curse17 their king and their God.
Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom,18 and they will be thrust into utter darkness.19
