8 Whenever I speak, I cry out proclaiming violence and destruction.¹ So the word of the LORD has brought me insult and reproach² all day long. 9 But if I say, "I will not mention him or speak any more in his name,"³ his word is in my heart like a fire,⁴ a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in;⁵ indeed, I cannot. 10 I hear many whispering, "Terror⁶ on every side! Report⁷ him! Let's report him!" All my friends⁸ are waiting for me to slip,⁹ saying, "Perhaps he will be deceived; then we will prevail¹⁰ over him and take our revenge¹¹ on him." 11 But the LORD¹² is with me like a mighty warrior; so my persecutors¹³ will stumble and not prevail.¹⁴ They will fail and be thoroughly disgraced;¹⁵ their dishonor will never be forgotten.
