He was in the world, and though the world was made through him,1 the world did not recognize him.
He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.212
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed3 in his name,4 he gave the right to become children of God5--
children born not of natural descent,a nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.614
The Word became flesh7 and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory,8 the glory of the One and Only,b who came from the Father, full of grace9 and truth.10
