19 Also the gatekeepers, Akkub, Talmon and their brethren who kept watch at the gates, were 172 * *.

Outside Jerusalem

20 The rest of Israel, of the priests and of the Levites, were in all the cities of Judah, each 1on his own inheritance.
21 But 2the temple servants were living in Ophel, and Ziha and Gishpa were in charge of the temple servants.
22 Now 3the overseer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Mica, from the sons of Asaph, who were the singers for the service of the house of God.
23 4For there was a commandment from the king concerning them and a firm regulation for the song leaders 5day by day.
24 Pethahiah the son of Meshezabel, of the sons 6of Zerah the son of Judah, was the 7king's representative in all matters concerning the people.

INTRODUCTION TO NEHEMIAH 11

This chapter treats of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, those of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin, who settled there by lot, or of their own accord, their names and numbers, Ne 11:1-9, and of the priests and Levites who dwelt there, Ne 11:10-19, and of the rest of the people, priests, and Levites, that dwelt in the other cities and villages of Judah and Benjamin, Ne 11:20-36.
