12Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances1have turned out for the greaterprogress of the 2gospel,
13so that my a3imprisonment in the cause of Christ has becomewellknownthroughout the wholebpraetorianguard and to 4everyoneelse,
14
and that most of the cbrethren, trusting in the Lord because of my d5imprisonment, have6farmorecourage to speak the word of Godwithoutfear.
157Some, to be sure, are preachingChristevenefrom envy and strife, but somealsoffrom goodwill ;
16
the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the 8gospel ;
17
the formerproclaimChrist9out of selfishambitiongratherthan from puremotives, thinking to cause me distress in my h10imprisonment.
18Whatthen ? Only that in everyway, whether in pretenseor in truth, Christ is proclaimed ; and in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice,
19
for I know that this will turn out for my ideliverance11through your jprayers and the provision of 12the Spirit of JesusChrist,
20according to my 13earnestexpectation and 14hope, that I will not be put to shame in anything, but that with 15allboldness, Christ will evennow, as always, be 16exalted in my body, 17whether by lifeor by death.
21
For to me, 18to live is Christ and to die is gain.
22kBut if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean 19fruitfullabor for me; and I do not knowlwhich to choose.
23
But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the 20desire to depart and 21be with Christ, for that is verymuchbetter ;
24yet to remain on in the flesh is morenecessary for your sake.
2522Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joymin the faith,
26so that your 23proudconfidence in me may abound in ChristJesusthrough my coming to you again.
