Be still1 before the LORD and wait patiently2 for him; do not fret3 when men succeed in their ways,4 when they carry out their wicked schemes.58
Refrain from anger6 and turn from wrath; do not fret7--it leads only to evil.
For evil men will be cut off,8 but those who hope9 in the LORD will inherit the land.1010
A little while, and the wicked will be no more;11 though you look for them, they will not be found.
But the meek will inherit the land12 and enjoy great peace.1312
The wicked plot14 against the righteous and gnash their teeth15 at them;
but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming.1614
The wicked draw the sword17 and bend the bow18 to bring down the poor and needy,19 to slay those whose ways are upright.
But their swords will pierce their own hearts,20 and their bows will be broken.2116
Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth22 of many wicked;
for the power of the wicked will be broken,23 but the LORD upholds24 the righteous.
The days of the blameless are known to the LORD,25 and their inheritance will endure forever.2619
In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty.
But the wicked will perish:27 The LORD's enemies will be like the beauty of the fields, they will vanish--vanish like smoke.28
