A Prophecy About Jerusalem

1 An oracle¹ concerning the Valley² of Vision:³ What troubles you now, that you have all gone up on the roofs,⁴ 2 O town full of commotion, O city of tumult⁵ and revelry?⁶ Your slain⁷ were not killed by the sword,⁸ nor did they die in battle. 3 All your leaders have fled⁹ together; they have been captured¹⁰ without using the bow. All you who were caught were taken prisoner together, having fled while the enemy was still far away. 4 Therefore I said, "Turn away from me; let me weep¹¹ bitterly. Do not try to console me over the destruction of my people."¹² 5 The Lord, the LORD Almighty, has a day¹³ of tumult and trampling¹⁴ and terror¹⁵ in the Valley of Vision,¹⁶ a day of battering down walls¹⁷ and of crying out to the mountains. 6 Elam¹⁸ takes up the quiver,¹⁹ with her charioteers and horses; Kir²⁰ uncovers the shield. 7 Your choicest valleys²¹ are full of chariots, and horsemen are posted at the city gates;²²
