Awake, awake!1 Rise up, O Jerusalem, you who have drunk from the hand of the LORD the cup2 of his wrath,3 you who have drained to its dregs4 the goblet that makes men stagger.518
Of all the sons6 she bore there was none to guide her;7 of all the sons she reared there was none to take her by the hand.819
These double calamities9 have come upon you-- who can comfort you?10-- ruin and destruction,11 famine12 and sword13-- who cana console you?
Your sons have fainted; they lie at the head of every street,14 like antelope caught in a net.15 They are filled with the wrath16 of the LORD and the rebuke17 of your God.
Therefore hear this, you afflicted18 one, made drunk,19 but not with wine.
This is what your Sovereign LORD says, your God, who defends20 his people: "See, I have taken out of your hand the cup21 that made you stagger; from that cup, the goblet of my wrath, you will never drink again.
I will put it into the hands of your tormentors,22 who said to you, 'Fall prostrate23 that we may walk24 over you.' And you made your back like the ground, like a street to be walked over."25
