Isaiah 53:4-9 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
4 Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows,1 yet we considered him stricken by God,2 smitten by him, and afflicted.3 5 But he was pierced4 for our transgressions,5 he was crushed6 for our iniquities; the punishment7 that brought us peace8 was upon him, and by his wounds9 we are healed.10 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,11 each of us has turned to his own way;12 and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity13 of us all. 7 He was oppressed14 and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth;15 he was led like a lamb16 to the slaughter,17 and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. 8 By oppressiona and judgment18 he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants? For he was cut off from the land of the living;19 for the transgression20 of my people he was stricken.b 9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked,21 and with the rich22 in his death, though he had done no violence,23 nor was any deceit in his mouth.24
