"I have surely heard Ephraim's moaning: 'You disciplined1 me like an unruly calf,2 and I have been disciplined. Restore3 me, and I will return, because you are the LORD my God.

After I strayed,4 I repented; after I came to understand, I beat5 my breast. I was ashamed6 and humiliated because I bore the disgrace of my youth.'7

Is not Ephraim my dear son, the child8 in whom I delight? Though I often speak against him, I still remember9 him. Therefore my heart yearns for him; I have great compassion10 for him," declares the LORD.
