6 Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever . 8 Cease from anger and forsake wrath; Do not fret; it leads only to evildoing. 5 "Behold, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my lifetime as nothing in Your sight; Surely every man at his best is a mere breath. Selah. 6 "Surely every man walks about as a phantom; Surely they make an uproar for nothing; He amasses riches and does not know who will gather them. 11 "With reproofs You chasten a man for iniquity; You consume as a moth what is precious to him; Surely every man is a mere breath. Selah. 11 And men will say, "Surely there is a reward for the righteous; Surely there is a God who judges on earth!"

God Alone a Refuge from Treachery and Oppression.

1 My soul waits in silence for God only; From Him is my salvation. 2 He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken. 4 They have counseled only to thrust him down from his high position; They delight in falsehood; They bless with their mouth, But inwardly they curse. Selah. 5 My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be shaken. 9 Men of low degree are only vanity and men of rank are a lie; In the balances they go up; They are together lighter than breath. 6 God makes a home for the lonely; He leads out the prisoners into prosperity, Only the rebellious dwell in a parched land. 21 Surely God will shatter the head of His enemies, The hairy crown of him who goes on in his guilty deeds.

BOOK 3

The End of the Wicked Contrasted with That of the Righteous.

1 Surely God is good to Israel, To those who are pure in heart! 13 Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure And washed my hands in innocence; 18 Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down to destruction. 8 For a cup is in the hand of the LORD, and the wine foams; It is well mixed, and He pours out of this; Surely all the wicked of the earth must drain and drink down its dregs. 9 Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, That glory may dwell in our land. 11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night," 13 Surely the righteous will give thanks to Your name; The upright will dwell in Your presence.
