Deuteronomy 18:19

19 I myself will hold accountable anyone who doesn't listen to my words, which that prophet will speak in my name.

Deuteronomy 18:19 Meaning and Commentary

Deuteronomy 18:19

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken
unto my words
To the doctrines of the Gospel, but slight and despise them:

which he shall speak in my name;
in whose name he came, and whose words or doctrines he declared them to be; not as his own, but his Father's, ( John 5:43 ) ( 7:16 ) .

I will require it of him;
or, as the Targums of Onkelos and Jonathan,

``my Word shall require it of him, or take vengeance on him;''

as Christ the Word of God did in the destruction of the Jewish nation, city, and temple; see ( Luke 19:27 Luke 19:44 ) .

Deuteronomy 18:19 In-Context

17 The LORD said to me: What they've said is right.
18 I'll raise up a prophet for them from among their fellow Israelites—one just like you. I'll put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him.
19 I myself will hold accountable anyone who doesn't listen to my words, which that prophet will speak in my name.
20 However, any prophet who arrogantly speaks a word in my name that I haven't commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods—that prophet must die.
21 Now, you might be wondering, How will we know which word God hasn't spoken?
