Psalms 44:20 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 44:20

If we have forgotten the name of our God
As antichrist, and the antichristian party did in those times, ( Daniel 11:36 Daniel 11:37 ) ;

or stretched out our hands to a strange god;
as not to any of the Heathen deities under the Pagan persecutions, so not to any images of gold, silver, brass, and wood, under the Papal tyranny; not to the Virgin Mary, nor to angels and saints departed; nor to the breaden God in the mass, never heard of before; see ( Daniel 11:38 Daniel 11:39 ) ( Revelation 9:21 ) .

Psalms 44:20 In-Context

18 Our hearts haven't turned away, neither have our steps strayed from your way.
19 But you've crushed us in the place where jackals live, covering us with deepest darkness.
20 If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to some strange deity,
21 wouldn't God have discovered it? After all, God knows every secret of the heart.
22 No, God, it's because of you that we are getting killed every day— it's because of you that we are considered sheep ready for slaughter.
