Defeat of the Ammonites

26 Meanwhile, Joab fought the Ammonites at Rabbah and captured the royal city.

2 Samuel 12:26 Meaning and Commentary

2 Samuel 12:26

And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon
Of his being sent against it, and of his besieging it, we read in ( 2 Samuel 11:1 ) ; but it can hardly be thought that he had been so long besieging it, as that David had two children by Bathsheba; but the account of the finishing of it is placed here, that the story concerning Bathsheba might lie together without any interruption:

and took the royal city;
or that part of it in which the king's palace was, and which, as Abarbinel observes, was without the city, as the palaces of kings now usually are.

2 Samuel 12:26 In-Context

24 Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba. He went to her and had sex with her. She gave birth to a son and named him Solomon. The LORD loved him
25 and sent word by the prophet Nathan to name him Jedidiah because of the LORD's grace.
26 Meanwhile, Joab fought the Ammonites at Rabbah and captured the royal city.
27 Joab then sent messengers to David, saying, "I have fought against Rabbah and captured the city's water supply.
28 So gather the rest of the troops, attack the city, and capture it. Otherwise, I will capture the city myself, and it will be named after me."
