Isaiah 2:10

10 Come into the rock, hide in the dust to escape the terror of ADONAI and the glory of his majesty.

Isaiah 2:10 Meaning and Commentary

Isaiah 2:10

Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust
As it was when Rome Pagan was destroyed, the kings, princes, and freemen called to the rocks to fall on them and hide them, ( Revelation 6:15 Revelation 6:16 ) so it will be at the downfall of Rome Papal, when the kings and merchants of the earth, who have been concerned therewith, will stand afar off, as for fear of her torment, ( Revelation 18:10 Revelation 18:15 )

so for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty;
lest he should pour out his wrath and vengeance upon them, and be a consuming fire to them, before whose glory and majesty they will not be able to stand; for this is to be understood not of a filial reverence of God, but of a servile fear of punishment; and these words are sarcastically said, suggesting that rocks and mountains will be no protection or security for them.

Isaiah 2:10 In-Context

8 Their land is full of idols; everyone worships the work of his hands, what his own fingers have made.
9 A person bows down, a man lowers himself - don't forgive them!
10 Come into the rock, hide in the dust to escape the terror of ADONAI and the glory of his majesty.
11 The proud looks of man will be humiliated; the arrogance of men will be bowed down; and when that day comes, ADONAI alone will be exalted.
12 Yes, ADONAI-Tzva'ot has a day in store for all who are proud and lofty, for all who are lifted high to be humiliated;
