And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.

[Echos ,] the sound; a very elegant metaphor, says Dr
Adam Clarke. The people are represented as struck with astonishment, and the sound goes out through all the coasts; in allusion to the propagation of sound by a smart stroke upon any substance.
