Ver. 12,13. Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it Or observe it, by setting it apart as a time of natural rest, and for the performance of holy and religious exercises; see ( Exodus 20:8 ) , where the phrase is a little varied, "remember the sabbath day to keep it holy"; it having been instituted before:
as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee; not at Sinai only, for the same might then have been observed of all the rest of the commands, but before the giving of the law, at the first of the manna; see ( Exodus 16:23 ) .

but showing faithful love to a thousand [generations] of those who love Me and keep My commands.

Do not misuse the name of the Lord your God, because the Lord will punish anyone who misuses His name.

Be careful to dedicate the Sabbath day, as the Lord your God has commanded you.

You are to labor six days and do all your work,

but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. You must not do any work-you, your son or daughter, your male or female slave, your ox or donkey, any of your livestock, or the foreigner who lives within your gates, so that your male and female slaves may rest as you do.
