Lamentations 3:64

Tav

64 You will pay them back what they deserve, Lord, according to the work of their hands.[a]

Lamentations 3:64 Meaning and Commentary

Lamentations 3:64

Render unto them a recompence, O Lord, according to the work
of their hands.
] The Septuagint and Vulgate Latin versions render this, and the following verses, not as petitions, but as prophecies of what should be; but they seem rather to be expressed by way of request; and here, that God would deal with them according to the law of retaliation, and requite them according to what they had done; that he would do to them as they had done to the Lord's people, and others; and this is ordered to be done particularly to the Chaldeans, or Babylonians, ( Jeremiah 50:15 Jeremiah 50:29 ) .

Lamentations 3:64 In-Context

62 The slander and murmuring of my opponents attack me all day long.
63 When they sit and when they rise, look, I am mocked by their songs.
64 You will pay them back what they deserve, Lord, according to the work of their hands.
65 You will give them a heart filled with anguish. May Your curse be on them!
66 You will pursue [them] in anger and destroy them under Your heavens.
