Nehemiah 9:15

15 You provided bread from heaven for their hunger; You brought them water from the rock for their thirst. You told them to go in and possess the land You had sworn[a] to give them.

Nehemiah 9:15 Meaning and Commentary

Nehemiah 9:15

And gavest them bread from heaven for their hunger
To satisfy that, meaning the manna, ( Exodus 16:3 Exodus 16:4 )

and broughtest forth water for them out of the rock, for their thirst;
to quench it; this was done both quickly after they came out of the land of Egypt, and a little before their entrance into the land of Canaan, see ( Exodus 17:6 ) ( Numbers 20:8 Numbers 20:11 )

and promisedst them that they should go in to possess the land
which thou hadst sworn to give them;
which oath was made to them and to their fathers also, see ( Numbers 14:30 ) ( Deuteronomy 1:8 ) .

Nehemiah 9:15 In-Context

13 You came down on Mount Sinai, and spoke to them from heaven. You gave them impartial ordinances, reliable instructions, and good decrees and commandments.
14 You revealed Your holy Sabbath to them, and gave them commandments, statutes, and a law through Your servant Moses.
15 You provided bread from heaven for their hunger; You brought them water from the rock for their thirst. You told them to go in and possess the land You had sworn to give them.
16 But our ancestors acted arrogantly; they became stiff-necked and did not listen to Your commands.
17 They refused to listen and did not remember Your wonders You performed among them. They became stiff-necked and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt. But You are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in faithful love, and You did not abandon them.
