Psalms 87:2-7

2 The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.[a]
3 Glorious things are said about you, city of God.[b] Selah
4 "I will mention those who know Me:[c] Rahab, Babylon, Philistia, Tyre, and Cush[d]- each one was born there."
5 And it will be said of Zion, "This one and that one were born in her." The Most High Himself will establish her.[e]
6 When He registers the peoples, the Lord will record, "This one was born there."[f] Selah
7 Singers and dancers alike [will say], "All my springs are in you."

Psalms 87:2-7 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO PSALM 87

\\<>\\. Whether this psalm was composed by David, in a view of the temple to be built by his son Solomon; or whether by one that returned from the Babylonish captivity, who wrote it for the comfort of those that wept at the laying of the foundation of the second temple; it seems evident that the subject matter of it is the church of God in Gospel times, and especially in the latter day glory: the title in the Syriac version is, ``concerning the redemption of Jerusalem.''
