The LORD alone led1 him;2 no foreign god was with him.313
He made him ride on the heights4 of the land and fed him with the fruit of the fields. He nourished him with honey from the rock,5 and with oil6 from the flinty crag,
with curds and milk from herd and flock and with fattened lambs and goats, with choice rams of Bashan7 and the finest kernels of wheat.8 You drank the foaming blood of the grape.915
Jeshuruna10 grew fat11 and kicked; filled with food, he became heavy and sleek. He abandoned12 the God who made him and rejected the Rock13 his Savior.
They made him jealous14 with their foreign gods and angered15 him with their detestable idols.
They sacrificed16 to demons,17 which are not God-- gods they had not known,18 gods that recently appeared,19 gods your fathers did not fear.
You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot20 the God who gave you birth.
The LORD saw this and rejected them21 because he was angered by his sons and daughters.2220
"I will hide my face23 from them," he said, "and see what their end will be; for they are a perverse generation,24 children who are unfaithful.2521
They made me jealous26 by what is no god and angered me with their worthless idols.27 I will make them envious by those who are not a people; I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding.2822
For a fire has been kindled by my wrath,29 one that burns to the realm of deathb below.30 It will devour31 the earth and its harvests32 and set afire the foundations of the mountains.33
