24 I will send wasting famine1 against them, consuming pestilence2 and deadly plague;3 I will send against them the fangs of wild beasts,4 the venom of vipers5 that glide in the dust.6 25 In the street the sword will make them childless; in their homes terror7 will reign.8 Young men and young women will perish, infants and gray-haired men.9 26 I said I would scatter10 them and blot out their memory from mankind,11 27 but I dreaded the taunt of the enemy, lest the adversary misunderstand12 and say, 'Our hand has triumphed; the LORD has not done all this.' "13 28 They are a nation without sense, there is no discernment14 in them. 29 If only they were wise and would understand this15 and discern what their end will be!16 30 How could one man chase a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight,17 unless their Rock had sold them,18 unless the LORD had given them up?19 31 For their rock is not like our Rock,20 as even our enemies concede.21 32 Their vine comes from the vine of Sodom22 and from the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes are filled with poison,23 and their clusters with bitterness.24 33 Their wine is the venom of serpents, the deadly poison of cobras.25 34 "Have I not kept this in reserve and sealed it in my vaults?26
