(gift of Jehovah ), a contraction of Mattaniah.

  1. Two Israelites who divorced their Gentile wives after the return from the Babylonish captivity. ( Ezra 10:33 Ezra 10:37 ) (B.C. 469.)
  2. A priest, son of Joiarib, in the time of Joiakim. ( Nehemiah 12:19 ) (B.C. after 536.)

MATTENAI

mat-e-na'-i, mat'-e-ni (mattenay, "liberal"):

(1) (2) Two who married foreign wives, one a son of Hashum (Ezra 10:33; in 1 Esdras 9:33 "Altanneus"); the other a son of Bani (Ezra 10:37).

(3) A priest in the days of Joiakim son of Jeshua (Nehemiah 12:19), representing the house of Joiarib.
