in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace,1 expressed in his kindness2 to us in Christ Jesus.
For it is by grace3 you have been saved,4 through faith5--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--
not by works,6 so that no one can boast.710
For we are God's workmanship,8 created9 in Christ Jesus to do good works,10 which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Therefore, remember that formerly11 you who are Gentiles by birth and called "uncircumcised" by those who call themselves "the circumcision" (that done in the body by the hands of men)12--
remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners13 to the covenants of the promise,14 without hope15 and without God in the world.
But now in Christ Jesus you who once16 were far away have been brought near17 through the blood of Christ.1814
For he himself is our peace,19 who has made the two one20 and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility,
by abolishing in his flesh21 the law with its commandments and regulations.22 His purpose was to create in himself one23 new man out of the two, thus making peace,
and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross,24 by which he put to death their hostility.
He came and preached peace25 to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.26
